Creating a Booklet in older versions of MS Word
Go from word processing to desktop publishing without having to download or buy any additional software by using Microsoft Word to create a booklet. Design a handout for a school play, business seminar or any other occasion with the same functions used in standard Word document creation. Rely on one of Word’s in-program templates to get started quickly and get ready to get the “Word” out.
Instructions
1 Open Microsoft Word. Click the “File” tab. Click “New.”
2 Click the “Brochures and booklets” button. Double-click the “Programs” file folder. Scroll through the available program templates and double-click one. The booklet opens in a new Word window.
3 Scroll through the pages of the booklet to get an idea of the layout, colors and formatting.
4 Highlight the booklet’s title on the cover with the cursor. Type over the words to replace them with the booklet’s subject matter. Repeat to replace other headlines and text throughout the booklet.
5 Change booklet word appearance by highlighting the new text, clicking the “Home” tab and using the options in the “Font” section of the ribbon/toolbar, such as new font, color and size for the words.
6 Click once on a placeholder picture included with the booklet. Press the “Delete” key on the keyboard to remove it. Click the “Insert” tab at the top of the workspace. Click the “Picture” button.
7 Browse to a digital image for the brochure. Double-click the file name and the image is place on the brochure. Drag it into place with the cursor. Repeat to add more custom images.
8 Add additional stock artwork by clicking the “Insert” tab and clicking the “Clip Art” button. Search for a word or phrase and click “Go.” Scroll through the options and double-click pictures to add them to the brochure.
9 Click the “Page Layout” tab at the top of the workspace. Click the “Page Color” button in the middle of the ribbon/toolbar. Select a small colored square to change the booklet’s page background color.
10 Click the “File” tab. Click “Save As.” Type a name for the booklet, select a place to save it to on the computer and click the “Save” button.
Note: Microsoft Word’s process for creating publications similar to booklets is the same. See the “New” section for publications such as brochures, newsletters and fliers.
