Can we talk – friend to friend? Let’s face it, the unemployment rate in the 1930′s was finally stabilized at around 25% just before WWII started. And that was the “real” number way back then, not calculated in the “new and unique way” unemployment is counted today.
While our government claims the official unemployment rate is now hovering around 10% – the “real” rate, measured in a more traditional way is much closer to 20% – give or take a point or two!
And it’s rapidly climbing … BECAUSE … the Feds are NOT counting those folks who have given up all hope of finding work in this virtually merciless economy.
These misguided government authorities (the big, mythical “they”) are trying hard to hide the “sad-but-true” facts from the people … and in many cases, doing it successfully. Most folks have no choice but to believe what the government bureaucrats and their elected representatives tell them is so …
And for many of us … we are watching our retirement funds, savings accounts and other asset values (houses, property and etc.) shrink by the day too … as the price of everything – including most of that un-necessary junk we all buy from the Pacific Rim (China mostly) – continues to climb out of control.
For most of us “9-5 working folks” … the cost of fuel for our daily commute will also continue to climb as the effects of the Gulf crude oil spill become more and more apparent – causing the price of imported oil to skyrocket (supply & demand rules) – and MANY MORE, seemingly unrelated job losses as well.
So … No matter what twisted and convoluted “story lines” our “out of control” government and elected representatives are handing us today … in real, practical terms, we are only about 5% (or less) away from equaling – or exceeding – the last major financial crisis to hit America …
The Great Depression!
And I’m not even factoring in the national debt … as that shoots to unfathomable, and unsustainable heights. The talking heads on TV just today said my “fair share” of the debt is now close to $300. WOW!
That too will come out of ours, our kids and grandkids hide. Some kind of governing leadership eh? Almost makes me yearn for the bad old days of “Cousin Jimmy” Carter in the White House.
As I (and many others) see it, the next few years, maybe even a decade or more, are NOT looking too good for “we, the people“… It’s gonna’ be a pretty rough ride for most of us … unless each of us is well prepared ahead of time to do the really hard things needed doing.
